A sketch is one of the most efficient ways of communicating an idea for a physical object. Not a 3D CAD sketch/model, but a pen on paper doodle. Conveying an idea with a few lines puts a more vivid image in your mind. The more fluidly you can translate your mind’s vision, through your fingertips, into a pen, and down on paper, the more productive the flow ideas within your self and with others. What good is a paradigm-shifting vision if you can’t share it productively. A good engineer holds ideas in the mind and only achieves what two hands can do. The great engineer seamlessly transfers the future in the mind trough paper into one-thousand minds and two-thousand hands. (Thousands might be a bit much - or not enough, depending on your ambition - but it holds true for even one other mind and two other hands; a great engineer knows more can be done when another mind and pair of hands function in unison, following a common vision)
