Starting with the obvious, in order to survive, living beings need a form of sustenance. Though some people can manage for over a month without a single bite, there comes a time when one must eat in order to survive. In an ever growing world, the number of mouths to feed, and thus the need for food, will continually increase. Until humanity becomes multi-planetary, in order to facilitate square-footage constraints, crop and livestock production should be continually optimized. Long gone should the days be where hundreds of acres of corn, wheat, barley, carrots, cucumbers, and the like are needed to support a small community. Space-multiplying vertical farming, intelligent crop rotations, and responsible genetic selection techniques are all steps in the right direction to feeding our globe. So long as man (as in mankind) walks the Earth (or Space Station, or other orbiting body), the company which continually innovates in sustenance will forever reap rewards.
