Hypothesis: The market for residential and commercial
solar panels will increase within the next few years as prices of panels
decrease, demand for electric power increases, and protective import tariffs
continue.

Outside the Boundary
|
Who:
|
Homeowners, non-lease/long-term
lease business owners, individuals conscious of the environment
|
Low income individuals, renters/lessees,
students
|
What:
|
Reliable,
affordable, sustainable energy
|
Not a high cost solution, not
interested in an investment that adds no value to them
|
Why:
|
Storms commonly knockout power
for hours/days/weeks at a time, why pay for electricity when there’s a way to
not have to?
|
Electricity included in rent, initial
installation costs are too high, don’t own the business so they will never
see the ROI/value added to the property

Interviews
The Interviews I Finished
Interview 1: College Student
What is
your current housing arrangement?
Renting

What do you
know about solar panels?
A
decent amount. Done a bit of research
Have you
ever used one? What for?
Yes,
a really tiny one which powered a little car
Would you
have any use for a solar array?
Since renting, not really. Maybe in 10 years after settling down in a
house and I have the money saved
Interview 2: Owner of single apartment
Where do you live?
Condo in Boca Raton, Florida
How much do you pay per month on average for electricity?
Average $97-110 (~$1250/year)
Since you live in an apartment, would you have any use for solar panels?
No. I would like to have them, but I live in a condo. So it isn’t a possibility
The Interviews I didn't get a chance to do within time
Interview 3: Another College student
What is
your current housing arrangement?
What do you
know about solar panels?
Have you
ever used a solar panel? What for?
Would you
have any use for a solar array currently?
What about
in the future?
Interview 4: Hotel
How large
is your building? How many rooms?
How much
traffic passes through on a given month/season?
What is
your most significant expense? Cleaning,
water, electricity
If
not electricity, where does electricity rank in expenses?
How
much do you spend?
How do you
currently power your building?
What is the
current monthly bill/consumption?
Have you
looked into other power sources?
What do you
know about solar energy?
Interview 5: Biomedical Device Manufacturing Business
Owner
How large
is your building, square feet?
Do you
lease or own?
If
Lease, is electricity included?
How is the
building powered?
What is the
current monthly bill/consumption?
Are other
power sources an option?
Have you
looked into other power sources?
What do you
know about solar energy?
What would
be your reasons for not all ready installing solar panels?
Hello Quinton,
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you on the statement of why should we pay for electricity when we could get it naturally for free from the sun. Currently, Elon Musk is trying to find a new way to use energy by creating a cheaper solar panel sustainable for citizens to use but solar panels are very expensive and they depend how much it costs based off of the state that you live in so to say we would get free electricity, yes indeed but the cost to install them and maintaining them would be just as cost effective.
